The Coachella Valley is renowned as a trendsetting hub of arts and culture. From film and music to fashion and design, people come the world over to inspire and be inspired. Now in its fourth iteration, Desert X has quickly become another ‘must see’ reason to visit Palm Springs. Running until May 7 2023, twelve artists have created site-specific exhibit installations throughout the valley. Each stunning work is a reflection on “forces that we exert on the world: how we design our environments and how we live.”
Palm Springs is blessed with a unique desert climate, where canyons hide oases that support an incredible array of flora and fauna. The colors, the sun, and the stunning night sky have captivated so many, including the Cahuilla Indians who have called the valley home for millennia. Desert X is a timely and topical event that allows us to pause and reflect on how we interact with the desert environment and the choices we make.
Each work in this year’s exhibition is as unique as the desert itself and attendees enjoy an immersive, open air, three dimensional viewing experience. Some of the highlights include Sleeping Figure by Matt Johnson, a massive sculpture using old railway cars and Pioneer by Tschabalala Self, a monument built in honor of the foremothers of contemporary America.
