The Joys of Giving

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

— Winston Churchill

December is a favorite time of year at Parker Palm Springs. As friends and family gather, the spirit of the season fills the air. It is a time of giving and sharing and our desert oasis is the ideal setting to celebrate. With thirteen private acres, you have room to move and breathe and with so many on-property amenities to choose from, you may just discover you have little reason to leave the estate – except maybe when it comes to shopping.

As Winston Churchill’s words imply, life is better when we give and for those looking for the perfect gift, Palm Springs is a shopper’s paradise. As is evident by the mid-century modern architecture throughout the town, Palm Springs has a storied past. This love and preservation of history is also reflected in our shops and boutiques and is why Palm Springs is on everyone’s Top 10 list of vintage shopping destinations. From the easy to please to the hard to buy for, Palm Springs shopping offers something for everyone on your list.

Here are some of our recommendations for the best shopping in Palm Springs:

Fashion

For lovers of retro and vintage fashion, Palm Springs is the place to be. There are numerous stores around town, and many are located near each other, making exploring shop to shop both fun and convenient. Some of our many favorites include The Frippery, offering a high-quality selection of women and men’s clothing that would make Audrey Hepburn or Steve McQueen proud, and Iconic Atomic, recently voted best vintage clothing shop by Palm Springs Life Magazine. Another notable is M Designer Vintage and More, where owner Monika D. is well-known for her depth of knowledge and impeccable eye.

Style, Kitsch, and Curios

One of the joys of giving is the joy of finding, and exploring Palm Springs antique stores is a great way to spend an afternoon. For the person on your list who has everything, be sure to stop in at Little Shop of Treasures. It is a not-so-little store with a wonderfully curated selection of clothing, jewelry, antiques and collectible furniture, and more. Another great option is The Shops at Thirteen Forty Five, a treasure trove of independent boutiques housed under one roof. It is a favorite destination for interior designers. For fashion accessories, Gypsyland is the go-to shop for those in the entertainment industry looking for items that will help them stand out on the red carpet.

Furniture and Antiques

Vintage Stores in Palm Springs are renowned for their quality, and this is especially true of shops specializing in furniture. The Palm Springs Art Museum has been at the forefront of documenting, curating, and exhibiting the mid-century modern art, design, and architecture that Palm Springs is famous for. The passion for vintage and mid-century modern among our shop owners is equally inspiring, so finding that perfect piece of furniture is more than possible here. One of the best-known vintage shops in Palm Springs is Modern Way. A trendsetter for more than two decades, it boasts a fabulous array of furniture from the ’50s to the ’70s including vintage hi-fi and stereos. Lastly, The Estate Sale Co, located just across the street from Parker Palm Springs, specializes in fine art and accessories, jewelry, and furniture. It is the perfect last stop before heading back to our estate for some well-deserved relaxation.

Palm Springs Yacht Club

They say that time is the greatest gift of all, and a gift certificate for the Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC) is just that. Located on property, this free-standing emporium of custom treatments and wellness is lowkey while full on in pampering and self indulgence. A white cotton terry robe, flip flops, a key to a private locker, and a thimble of our cucumber-infused vodka set you on your way to one of our fifteen private treatment rooms. After, lounge and unwind with a beverage by our indoor pool in your own, private cabana.

The Perfect Gift

There are dozens of wonderful vintage and antique stores in Palm Springs. If you are looking for something particular or have a general shopping question, please speak to our Concierge team. After a day of shopping, a beverage by the pool, and a delicious meal, you may, like many of our guests, find yourself around our outdoor fire pit. As you toast s’mores and share the adventures of the day, be sure to look up at the stars in the spectacular desert night sky. It is a sight that reminds all of us that in the end, it is not so much the gift that is important, as the spirit with which it is given.
