Cycling in Palm Springs

Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.

— John F. Kennedy

Grounds with Man on Bicycle

Simple pleasures. A delicious breakfast al fresco, a poolside lounge chair so comfortable it is difficult to leave, a refreshing cocktail enjoyed in a hammock under soaring palm trees. They all have one thing in common – in the moment, time seems to stand still.

Parker Palm Springs was conceived on the idea that true luxury is having the time to lose yourself in the moment. Our unhurried, relaxed elegance and style, dedicated to uncomplicated luxury has helped earn us the reputation as the best boutique hotel in Palm Springs.

As President Kennedy’s words suggest, the simple pleasures in life are often the most memorable, and few activities are as joyful and escapist as riding a bike. Conveniently, biking in Palm Springs is dream. The streets are flat and wide, the roads and pathways easy to navigate, and there is so much to do and see – both in town and the surrounding desert. Adventurous or easygoing, the choice is yours.

Chris Hagen, Chef Concierge recommends reserving one of Parker Palm Springs’ complimentary bikes. “They are beach cruisers,” Chris says, “and very comfortable.” Bikes include a helmet and a lock, so you can stop and explore along the way. Visit the concierge desk before departing and pick up a cycling map created by the City of Palm Springs. The map includes various levels of bike paths and provides suggested routes to take.

There are so many things to do and see in town, including dining, museums, galleries, and shopping – especially vintage clothing, curios, and antiques. With no timetable or agenda to adhere to, the freedom to wander and discover is yours.

For a more immersive experience, Chris recommends a cycling tour of the stunning mid-century modern homes that Palm Springs is famous for.

If exploring nature is more to your liking, consider an off-road adventure with one of the local cycling companies, such as Big Wheel Tours. They offer a fantastic half-day Indian Canyons bike and hike tour. It starts from their cycle shop in downtown Palm Springs and includes everything you need for a wonderful morning or afternoon of desert exploration. From the cycle shop, you ride to the entrance of Indian Canyons, then proceed on foot to a stunning, hidden oasis. Under the stewardship of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the canyons boast waterfalls, ancient rock art and irrigation systems, as well as unique native flora and fauna.

A perfect day of exploring deserves a perfect way to relax and unwind. At Parker Palm Springs, poolside or under the palm trees, cocktail in hand from our Lemonade Stand, you may just find yourself losing track of time, savoring life’s simple pleasures.
