The Art of Palm Springs

“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

— Pablo Picasso

The desert landscapes of Palm Springs have long inspired artists the world over. They have come not only for the stunning geography and habitat, but also for the quality of light that bathes everything in its quintessential California hue.

The town of Palm Springs is blessed with the results of this inspiration. From the mid-century architecture around every corner to the plethora of galleries, museums, artist studios, and craftsperson workshops, art is everywhere you look. The same can be said of Parker Palm Springs, considered to be one of the finest boutique hotels in Palm Springs. Our private 13-acre, Jonathan Adler designed oasis is an ode to artists and their art. A destination in its own right, our property is the perfect location from which to explore the art and beauty of Palm Springs.

Here are a few of our favorite art-inspired activities to do when in town.

First Wednesday Art Walk

As the name implies, this Art Walk takes place on the first Wednesday of every month in the Backstreet Art District of Palm Springs. Visiting a diverse collection of galleries, working artist studios, and art businesses, the walk is a great introduction to the incredible depth and breadth of the current art scene in Palm Springs. Afterwards, take a trip back in artistic time and visit the many vintage stores, antique and consignment shops located in the Uptown Design District. From classic fashion to rare mid-century treasures and iconic furniture, Palm Springs is the destination for lovers of all things vintage.

Palm Springs Art Museum

Since relocating to its current home in 1976, the Palm Springs Art Museum has evolved into one of the most influential museums in our country. The museum is a showcase for modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design. Highly recommended and a must visit for those who appreciate art and design.

Downtown Art and Sculpture

Palm Springs is renowned for its artistic culture. Events like the Palm Springs Film Festival and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival draw people from around the globe every year. The town is also famous for its Public Art and throughout Palm Springs there are stunning works to be discovered. Sculptures, murals, and art installations abound, from a wide variety of well-known artists. Intriguing, inspiring, and definitely Instagram worthy, exploring Palm Springs can feel like visiting the world’s largest open-air art gallery.

One of the best ways to explore Palm Springs is on a complimentary Parker Palm Springs bicycle. The roads in town are smooth and flat and make for easy riding, allowing you to get up close and personal to the public art. Along the way, you can also marvel at the mid-century architecture that Palm Springs is known for. Some of these classic homes, including one designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, are available for private tours. Please contact our Concierge for details and assistance on this or any other question you may have.

The Art of Relaxation
After a day of artistic discovery, the comforts of Parker Palm Springs are the perfect respite. Lounge by one of our three distinct pools, with a cocktail of your choice from Lemonade Stand. Later, when thoughts drift to culinary delights, some of the finest Palm Springs restaurants are right on property. Norma’s, our open-air terrace dining restaurant provides the perfect setting for an evening in the desert. The menu is California fresh with entrees prepared to classic perfection. For a more lively experience, the Parisian-inspired Counter Reformation offers a curated selection of wines by the glass and a small plated, savory tasting menu.

Post evening meal, unwind in our lobby lounge, affectionately known as ‘the living room.’ Surrounded by the incredible design of Jonathan Adler and our property’s stunning art, it is the perfect place to recount and reflect on the day’s adventure and the inspiration that comes when we open our minds to artistic expression.
