Hiking in the Area

“The world is incomprehensibly beautiful, an endless
prospect of magic and wonder.”
— Ansel Adams

Parker Palm Springs Hiking Sunset and Palms

The desert is a canvas that nature continuously paints. Wind, light and sand combine to constantly create something new, through the seasons, the months and even within a single day. The quiet solitude found in this ever-changing topography has for years attracted artists, photographers and those seeking memorable moments of reflection and magic.

Parker Palm Springs has long been a destination for such seekers. Our private estate, set next to the desert foothills is perfectly situated to discover the wonders of the area. Beginning and ending your day of exploration at the finest 5-star resort in Palm Springs makes it that much sweeter.

To better plan your adventure, we are here to help. From a day-long trek to what we affectionately call the “I’m taking my kids and the mother-in-law” walk, Chris Hagen, Chef Concierge and her team will curate the perfect experience for you. “We are very familiar with these hikes and the secret spots to stop along the way,” she says.

Like any good guide, Chris recommends that you start out well prepared. Our Chefs at Norma’s create Estate Picnic Baskets that are as elegant as they are delectable. Enjoyed on a blanket, under palm trees, overlooking an incredible, desert vista is the kind of special moment that makes memories. “For many hikes,” Chris says, “this is the perfect option.” Did we mention the bottle of Champagne that is included?

Indian Canyons

Made up of three stunning settings, Palm Canyons, Andreas Canyon, and Murray Canyon, collectively the Indian Canyons represent one of the most distinct desert environments anywhere in the country. Looking like something out of a Hollywood film, the canyons are considered sacred by the Cahuilla Indians who continue to act as custodians of the land and its forest of palm trees.

The entire area is picnic basket-worthy and sure to delight. Access is year-round and from October to May, a Ranger-led interpretive hike can be arranged. For something more accessible, there is a lovely, short loop at the beautiful Andreas Canyon.

Joshua Tree

Less than an hour from our property is one of America’s most beloved national parks. From Ansel Adams to U2, it is a place that inspires all who visit. Here, there are trails for varying levels and abilities. We recommend entering via the north side where Joshua Trees are in abundance. For an easy, yet stunning walk, the 1-mile Hidden Valley loop reveals the quintessential nature of the terrain. Surrounded by the park’s namesake trees, the trail winds through large rock outcrops which, in a bygone era, were used by bandits as cover to hide their stolen cattle.

Desert Hills

There are many spectacular and scenic hikes that begin just minutes from our door. The Museum Trail, which appropriately starts behind the Palm Springs Art Museum, gains 850 feet of elevation and rewards hikers with wonderful vistas of Palm Springs (and picnic tables).

The Ultimate View

There is more than one way up Mt. San Jacinto. For the truly adventurous (and fit) there is a 7-hour trek along the Skyline Trail, part of what is known as the Cactus to the Clouds hike. Another option, and the one we recommend, is to take the Palm Springs Tramway to the top. Once there, follow the nature trails along the ridge to glorious views of the Coachella Valley. Time it right and you will witness one of the most spectacular sunsets anywhere. As the shadows play across the rock formations, red, brown, and purple highlights appear, reminding us that nature is the greatest artist of all.
